Grounding and Shielding
What is Grounding for? In psionics, grounding is used for flushing out unwanted energy, thoughts, emotions, etc. These are things that build up over a single day or even years, and they cause us issues with ourselves and other people. Typically it isn’t difficult to ground, there are a few methods presented below to begin practicing with.
What is Shielding for? Although psychic shielding is used along with grounding often, it is not the same thing and it can be used separately. Shields come in many different forms and depends upon what the individual needs and how they construct the shields; but for a general rule of thumb shields help prevent invasive energy from affecting you.
Common issues and concerns? Some common issues with grounding and shielding reside mainly in the ability to visualize. This includes visualizing yourself, a shield, and flow of energy. Other concerns deal with how much energy is needed for the shield to support itself or programming the shield to do a specific thing, even without your constant focus on it.
Common expectations vs. results? There is a double-sided expectation with shields, in that either a psion expects it to collapse if they stop focusing on it, or that it will take care of itself even without giving it a fuel source.
With grounding psions can sometimes forget to bring the root up from the source they are grounding into and this tends to cause a pulling or slowing down affect on some. Another expectation is instant fulfillment of energy in the system as if feeding, and this is not the same as feeding.
Common mistakes and assumptions? There are often mistakes in forgetting to shield one’s back and feet because we tend to think of covering what we are most aware of with our bodies. One must learn to be aware of Over, Under, In front of, and Behind. Another misconception is assuming that shields are the end all. Shields are used in battles as offensive weapons to push the opponent back; they’re used to deflect unwanted energy; and they help us maintain a certain state of mind with ourselves.
Note 01: As with all psionics, you can ground / shield another person. But it is always best to learn to practice with yourself so that you understand what is going on and what it feels like.
What to watch out for? Novices especially tend to get cocky with what they learn, but so do more advanced people. Ego just makes you look silly and no one wants to teach someone who takes their teaching for granted. Another problem is when a person knows how to do grounding, shielding, scanning, or other psionic abilities; and instead of improving them the student goes to others for assistance with minor issues. These kinds of people end up wondering why no one wants to help them later.
What else is important to know?
Method 01: Tree or Root Grounding
1. Get comfortable in your chair or standing where you are
2. If you are familiar with chakras, there is a spot somewhere between the Heart and Solar Plexus. It sits back behind the chakra’s. For those not familiar with chakras, there is a spot along the spine that is just behind the diaphragm.
3. Feel around for it; it should feel like a heavy ball and deep in the center of your body. Once found you will get a ‘ping’ mentally or empathically. This is your Center.
4. Once found, imagine a small root growing out of its base.
5. Work this root down along the spine until it reaches the base of the spine. From there let the root work its way to the outside of the body and continue down to the floor.
6. If you life on a ground floor. Move the root along the floor until it finds a place it can penetrate through to the Earth underneath the building (be it through the window or a crack in the floor/wall, or just push it through the floor).
7. If you live above the ground floor. Do the same but work the root through the layers of building below your feet until it reaches Earth.
8. Through the root feel what the Earth feels like here, the soil . . . is it moist or dry, cool or warm?
9. Continue pushing the root through the Earth letting it pass through the layers of soil, clay, rock, groundwater, etc until it comes to a place of resting deep inside the earth. Explore the feel of it as you pass through the layers and come to the resting place.
10. From here, let the root branch tendrils out into the Earth and hook with it and relax with it for a moment.
11. Start pulling up the Earth’s energy through the tendrils, then the root. Let the energy work it’s way up the root at a comfortable speed until it enters up through your body and into the Center. Feel what the Earth’s energy feels like as it’s being pulled up through the root.
12. Once it reaches your Center, let it fill it up and start overflowing into your body. Let the Earth’s energy fill you up from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head.
13. Let the energy latch onto anything you don’t want anymore: negative feelings, thoughts, energy from other people … physical/emotional pains and illnesses.
14. Flush the Earth’s energy out through your feet and into the Earth. Make sure it takes all the things you gave it to take with it. It will pull these things out of you and ground them out into the Earth.
15. Draw more energy up through the root and refill yourself again, repeat flushing out negative junk and refilling yourself until you feel there is nothing else for the Earth’s energy to ground out of you. This is a form of clearing yourself and being Centered and at peace with yourself.
16. Draw the Earth’s energy up into yourself one more time and hold it for a moment, settling into it and how it feels to you.
17. Begin compressing the energy into a ball inside your center. Compact it into a tight ball of energy. It may feel heavy and tight to you, and this is normal.
18. With this ball start pushing it out, letting it expand and become bigger and bigger inside your body. As it gets bigger it will start expanding to outside your body – this is good.
19. Keep going until it surrounds your body. This is the very basics of shields that is not yet altered to your needs.
20. Focusing on this new shield, imagine it having the consistency of a beach ball; meaning that the shield should be flexible enough to not shatter when attacked, and also be able to be elastic enough that what does attack it will reflect back to the sender instead of hitting you.
21. Any extra energy you have left over should be grounded out until you are stable. If you need more energy you can draw it up through the root. Too much energy will make you hyper and burn you out. Too little will not keep you or the shield fueled.
22. Now start bringing the root back up into your center at a rate that is comfortable for you. Never leave it grounded in the Earth, it will make you feel heavy and like your dragging something along with you all day. Practice often.
