Sparring is practice combat, and is vital in energy-working.
Many people believe, wrongly, that energy can't seriously harm them. In fact, there are many ways that you can be harmed by energy.
Your mind can be scrambled for minutes, hours, days and even years depending on the strength of an attack. Also, your body's nervous system can be affected, again from minor, short-term effects to severe lifetime incapacity. So take this into account when you brazenly announce to people you don't know, how powerful you think you are.
Most people that don't spar, only learn how to protect themselves through actual combat, on the spot. And this is a very dangerous approach.
A far better method, Sparring, takes place in a controlled environment, among friendly people. The more you practice sparring, the better you and they can improve, hopefully before some prick comes along and wants to seriously harm you. And if you're nice with sparring, you will likely even make many friends among your sparring partners, and will be able to assist each other against real threats later.
The purpose of sparring is not to harm each other. It is for learning only.
And it's recommended that you have someone mediate the match, that is able to see your energy battle. The match ends when one opponent says Enough. Feel free to call time-outs, or take breaks between each round as needed. Also, it helps to have a healer handy, just in case anyone gets hurt.
Again, sparring isn't about ego, or emotions, just training.
When you begin a Sparring match, you and your opponent should state that you will each start with with 10% of your output, for defense and offense. You then both go a couple rounds at 10%, then make an agreement to notch up to 20% as you are both comfortable to do so. Continue per round agreeing each time to notch up 10%.
The way you determine 10% is to start alone by focusing your Total power on one thing like shielding; that's 100%. Then do it again at 1/2 that output; that's 50%. Do it again at 1/2 that and you're at 25% output. Continue until you can do all your abilities at 10%, 20%, etc
In learning to scale your output, you'll learn variations and better control in all your abilities. This will help you immensely down the road in all things that you do.
There are several communities that are dedicated to sparring. Some of these are good and some suck. Others are dangerous as they treat sparring as real combat, ignoring participants well being. I recommend you ask around about any sparring community before joining, and if you have an issue with any of them, let us know.
In conclusion, sparring is an excellent method for practicing, growing, testing yourself against an opponent. Just remember, it's about training for you and others, so leave your ego at the door before a match and pick it up on the way out.
